South Pasadena High School delivered a standout performance at the Pasadena City College Regional Science Olympiad Tournament on Saturday, February 7, 2026.

Thirty SPHS students, competing in two teams, rose to the top of a competitive field of 21 teams representing 17 schools. The Tigers claimed 1st and 4th place overall, securing their spot at the Southern California State Tournament for the fourth consecutive year. The state competition will take place on April 11, 2026, at Caltech.
This year’s success reflects months of dedication. Since October, SPHS Science Olympiad students have participated in five invitational tournaments, committing countless hours after school and on weekends to prepare for events spanning biology, engineering, chemistry, earth science, and more.
Science Olympiad, an international nonprofit organization, aims to elevate science education, spark student interest in STEM fields, and celebrate academic achievement among both students and teachers. SPHS’s strong showing underscores the program’s impact and the students’ enthusiasm for hands-on, inquiry-based learning.
Science teacher Benjamin Ku, who coaches the team, praised the students for their persistence and teamwork throughout the season.
