Spring benefits webinars offer financial, legal guidance


MSU Denver’s Total Rewards team is offering a series of benefits webinars and individual sessions this spring designed to help employees plan for retirement, protect their families and identities, and make informed financial decisions. Opportunities run March through June and include virtual and in-person options. 

Whether you’re fine-tuning your retirement strategy, considering homeownership or organizing essential legal documents, these sessions provide practical, “news you can use” guidance from trusted partners and subject-matter experts. 

TIAA Retirement 

  • Meet one-on-one with a TIAA representative to review your retirement account and financial goals. 
  • Dates: March 18, April 7, May 12 and June 15. Appointments are available at various times. 
  • Locations: JSSB 305 and 310D.

Fidelity retirement 

  • Meet one-on-one with a Fidelity representative to review your retirement account and financial goals. 
  • Dates: March 20, April 16, May 14 and June 11. Appointments are available at various times.

Roth webinar 

  • A Roth contribution (an after-tax retirement savings option) offers unique tax advantages that some employees don’t fully exercise within their employer-sponsored retirement plan. This session will explore the differences between a Roth IRA and a Roth contribution within an employer-sponsored plan, and how both compare to traditional pre-tax contributions.  
  • Participants will gain insight into which contribution option may best align with their financial goals and tax situation.

Colorado Housing and Finance Authority (CHFA) 

  • Thinking about buying a home? This session will walk participants through the homebuying process and highlight CHFA’s down payment assistance programs, homebuyer education resources and unique requirements, such as lower credit score allowances and no change in interest rates based on credit scores.

Legal Shield 

Get Your House in Order 

  • Life gets busy, and important “adulting” tasks often get pushed aside. This workshop is designed to help you confidently address essential matters such as wills, guardianship for minor children and protecting your family’s rights and wishes. 
  • The session will also include practical tips for safeguarding yourself and your loved ones from identity theft. 
  • Date: March 11 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

If You Are Me … Who Am I? 

  • Identity theft is growing, and it affects us every day. From stolen passwords to misuse of personal information, identity theft can impact your finances, credit and even your reputation. 
  • In this engaging workshop, participants will learn: 
    • The six types of identity theft 
    • How criminals access your personal information 
    • Ways to reduce your risk at work and at home 
    • What to do — and whom to call — if your identity is compromised 
  • The session will also introduce the concept of reputation management — why your digital footprint matters and how to protect “the new you” online. 
  • Date: April 22 from 11 a.m. to noon.

Social Security Administration 

Social Security webinar 

  • As retirement approaches, employees are often flooded with information that might be inaccurate. Josh Weller, public affairs specialist with the Social Security Administration, will lead a live educational webinar for attendees interested in learning more about their benefit options. 
  • The presentation will cover common Social Security questions, including but not limited to: 
    • How benefits are calculated 
    • Benefit eligibility factors 
    • The application process 
    • Social Security’s online services 
    • Time will be reserved at the end for Q&A.
