Springfield fashion designer adding flair to major awards show

SPRINGFIELD (WGGB/WSHM) — From Springfield to the Golden Globes…a local fashion designer is taking his skills to one of the biggest awards shows of the year!

Western Mass News is getting answers on how he’ll bring Springfield style to Hollywood.

“It’s humbling. I have to say that I’ve never thought that I would be looked at in this manner, especially being an independent designer,” Justin Haynes told us.

Job interviews and college applications tend to ask ’where do you see yourself in 5 years?’ …’10 years time?’

For Springfield designer and tailor Justin Haynes, he would have never thought his answer would be working as a mentor for one of the biggest red carpets of the year.

“I hadn’t even thought, like I had my own mentees, but I hadn’t thought, you know, I wasn’t going to do it on this type of level,” he explained.

Haynes has been working in fashion for years, first founding his global brand JUS10H and later stepping into roles on the Tokyo and West Africa Fashion Councils.

Despite being shocked by the call from the Golden Globes, Haynes told us he was ready to pick up.

“They’ve asked me to help some of the emerging stylists to kind of prepare their nominees and so on and so forth for this year’s award show,” he told us.

According to Haynes, the goal of his role is to make sure that every stylist knows the difference between each awards show.

“It was more of an elegant, kind of classy, you know, award show. And we don’t want to bring it back to going too costumey. We want to make sure that there’s a difference between the Met Gala and the Golden Globes,” Haynes noted.

Not only is Haynes critiquing the cohesiveness of the designs but everything from head to toe.

“So, it’s not just picking the dress or the tuxedo or the suit. You have to go from top to bottom. So, after you’ve picked the suit, after you’ve picked the gown, you know, let’s talk about hair. Let’s talk about makeup. Let’s talk about earrings. Let’s talk about accessories. Let’s also talk about footwear,” he explained.

He’s also educating emerging designers and stylists, ensuring they’re prepared for such events.

Haynes has been collaborating with 20 designers since October. While he cannot reveal who they are or which celebrities they’re dressing, Haynes said each designer brings something unique to the table.

“It’s all about knowing the person and their personality,” he told us, “It’s been rewarding for me. Something I didn’t think I would ever do in this capacity.”

Haynes said he isn’t sure if he’ll be back for the 2027 awards, but “just being nominated” is the real success.

“You know, those words, I mean, you know, it’s humbling. I have to say that.”

Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno shared his pride for Haynes on social media, writing:

“From City Hall to the big-time stage of Hollywood and the Golden Globes! Not only have you made yourself and your family and friends proud- you’ve made our Springfield proud.”

And if you’re interested in tuning in to see Hayne’s critiques hitting the red carpet, be sure to tune in and watch!

The Golden Globes will air on CBS and stream on Paramount Plus starting at 8 p.m. on Sunday, January 11.
