Dylan Harper is out with a right calf contusion for the San Antonio Spurs’ game on Monday, March 16.
The San Antonio Spurs will face the Los Angeles Clippers on the road on Monday, March, 16 but they will be without one of their best young players.
Dylan Harper is listed as out with a right calf contusion on the official injury report. He had 13 points, five rebounds and five assists on 50% shooting from the field in a 136-131 loss to the Denver Nuggets on Thursday, March 12.
Harper is having a strong rookie season after San Antonio selected him with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2025 NBA draft. The guard is averaging 11.2 points, 3.3 rebounds and 3.8 assists while shooting 48.7% from the field and 29.2% from beyond the arc.
Is Dylan Harper Playing Tonight?
Harper will miss his second consecutive game with this injury. He had not missed any time since February 4. His next opportunity to suit up will be tomorrow, when San Antonio travels to face the Sacramento Kings.
Harper has been a key piece in what has been one of San Antonio’s most successful seasons this decade. The rookie is the Spurs’ sixth man, providing playmaking and scoring off the bench. San Antonio is second in the Western Conference standings behind the defending-champion Oklahoma City Thunder.
For tonight’s game guard Jordan McLaughlin and forward Keldon Johnson could see more minutes in Harper’s absence. Luke Kornet (right knee soreness) is also out.
Dylan Harper Among Top NBA Rookies
Among one of the strongest rookie classes in recent memory, Harper has more than held his own, ranking fourth on the most recent NBA.com Rookie Ladder, ahead of the Kings’ Maxime Raynaud.
Harper’s individual stats could maybe be better, but Steve Aschburner thinks the guard has played his role on the team behind superstars like Victor Wembanyama and De’Aaron Fox beautifully.
“No NBA rival has been playing with more cohesion and selflessness than the Spurs. Harper comes off the bench and exemplifies the we-over-me outlook,” Aschburner wrote.
The rookie at the top of the ladder, Kon Knueppel, is having a historic first season in the NBA. The Charlotte Hornets’ guard, averaging 19.3 points per game, has already set the NBA rookie record for made three pointers with a league-leading 236. That ability to stretch the floor is translating into success for the Hornets, who are +3.3 points when Knueppel is on the floor.
