It has been 40 long days since Warriors star Steph Curry stepped foot on an NBA floor for a regular-season game.
It ll be at least another 10 days until Curry — who’s dealing with patellofemoral pain syndrome, also known as runner’s knee — laces his shoes up for another game, and Warriors coach Steve Kerr says the 12-time NBA All-Star is feeling some type of way.
“He’s frustrated,” Kerr told 95.7 The Game’s “Willard & Dibs” on Wednesday. “He wants to be out there for his guys. It’s obviously been an injury that’s lasted a lot longer than anyone thought it would. He’s dying to be out there, but there’s not a whole lot that goes into it.
“We’re just following the training staff’s lead and Rick Celebrini’s advice. We’re just trying to give him the best chance to come back and stay healthy and finish the season strongly.”
After missing just 20 games over the previous two seasons, Curry now has missed 26 games during the 2025-26 campaign and will miss an additional five, minimum, according to the latest update provided by Golden State on Wednesday.
Kerr says Curry, who is averaging 27.2 points and 4.8 assists per game this season, still hasn’t been able to touch the floor with the team since being sidelined with the knee injury.
“He hasn’t practiced yet,” Kerr said. “He’s getting shots up, but he’s not in a place yet where we’re saying he’s going to be practicing anytime in the next few days. It’s pretty methodical. As you guys know, Rick is as good as they come and he’s going to be very cautious and make sure Steph gets the right build up and we go from there.”
The Warriors (32-33) are currently the ninth seed in the Western Conference, but they are just half a game out from the all-important eighth seed.
Teams who are either the seventh or eighth seed in the NBA play-in tournament bracket essentially receive two chances to reach the playoffs, as opposed to ninth and 10th seeds who play a win-or-go-home game.
The Warriors, who are 5-10 during Curry’s current absence, will continue to play it safe, but with just 17 games remaining on the season, Curry back on the floor is something everyone with Golden State wants to see.
