PHOENIX — Guard Jalen Green, who has played in only two games for the Phoenix Suns this season, has a right hamstring strain and will miss at least four to six weeks before being reevaluated, the team announced Tuesday.
Green initially suffered the hamstring injury in training camp, missing the entire Phoenix preseason and the regular season’s first eight games. The explosive guard returned Nov. 6 and scored 29 points in 23 minutes in a home win over the Clippers.
“Everything that we expected, and definitely more,” coach Jordan Ott said that night.
Two nights later in Inglewood, Calif., however, Green, who had not missed a game in his previous two seasons, pulled up in the first half and immediately grabbed the hamstring. He needed assistance getting to the locker room.
The Suns acquired Green and veteran forward Dillon Brooks from the Houston Rockets in the summer blockbuster deal that involved Kevin Durant. It was the biggest move in Phoenix’s roster overhaul, but both players have missed time with injuries. In addition to Green’s hamstring, Brooks suffered a core injury and missed six games. He returned Saturday and has played in Phoenix’s last two games, including Monday night’s 121-98 home win over New Orleans.
Despite the setbacks, the Suns have played well, winning five of six to improve to 6-5. Alongside star guard Devin Booker, Grayson Allen is playing his best basketball, averaging a career-best 18.6 points and 4.6 assists. In Monday’s win over New Orleans, he scored a career-high 42 points and broke a franchise record with 10 3-pointers. Collin Gillespie also has been steady off the bench.
The Suns visit Dallas on Wednesday.
