‘Super Mario Galaxy Movie’ Posts Best Monday of 2026

After posting the best opening weekend and 5-day of 2026, Illumination/Nintendo/Universal’s Super Mario Galaxy Movie hasn’t let up, also charting the best Monday year-to-date with $16.8M. The running total for the Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic directed animated movie is $207.6M after six days.

Yesterday, per Comscore, there was a spillover from the Easter holiday with 49% K-12 schools off in the nation in addition to 9% of all colleges.

Other rankings for Super Mario Galaxy Movie‘s Monday:

Among Illumination animated movies, the sequel’s Monday ranks behind Super Mario Bros Movie‘s $20.1M from Easter Monday 2023 and Sing‘s Dec. 26, 2016 Monday of $19.6M and ahead of Minions: The Rise of Gru‘s July 4, 2022 take of $16M.

Among all Mondays in April, Super Mario Galaxy Movie is fourth after Avengers: Endgame ($36.8M, 2019), Avengers: Infinity War ($24.7M, 2018), Super Mario Galaxy Movie ($20.1M) and ahead of F7 ($14M, 2017).

A repeat of No. 1 is definitely in Super Mario Galaxy‘s sights this weekend at the boxoffice with mere counterprogramming on the marquee, i.e. Universal’s You, Me & Tuscany and IFC’s Faces of Death.

Worth noting as weekend 2 could be bound for some kind of ranking: 2023’s Super Mario Bros ranks as the second best weekend ever for an animated movie with $92.3M behind 2024’s Inside Out 2 which did $101.2M.
