Surprise! Team Cherry has just rolled out a patch not for Hollow Knight: Silksong, but its nine-year-old predecessor, Hollow Knight, and it addresses a “slightly longer than intended” mechanic in the very final boss fight.
At first blush, the patch seems chiefly focused on small fixes and adding traditional Chinese to the language options. But one single line – “Fixed Radiance’s orb attack hitbox lingering slightly longer than intended if the orb expires in the air” – will have a huge impact on players trying to get through that final assault.
The Radiance is, of course, Hollow Knight’s real final boss, and now, nine years after its initial release, Team Cherry has acknowledged the after-shocks from those orbs were outstaying their welcome, even when they’d visually disappeared. Consequently, the studio has tweaked their hit box accordingly, along with some other improvements, which are listed below:
Patch Notes
- Added Traditional Chinese translation
- Fixed low audio volume when navigating the inventory.
- Fixed alignment for text to not overlap when a wide square key (shift/space/etc) is bound to an action.
- Fixed overcharmed notches being unintentionally removed in a specific instance.
- Fixed Radiance’s orb attack hitbox lingering slightly longer than intended if the orb expires in the air.
- Fixed Mawlurks being pushable by Infected Balloons.
- Fixed Mantis Traitors being damagable while underground.
- Fixed Journal notification icons sometimes not appearing, and occasionally displaying the incorrect icon.
- Fixed various instances of the ‘New Journal Entry’ pop-up not displaying.
- Fixed minor instances of Hunter’s note kills not being awarded as intended.
- Fixed an instance of Baldur Shell sometimes lingering longer than intended.
- Fixed double damage to play the correct audio clip (Previously playing single damage sfx).
- Fixed Heavy Fool’s dash attack sometimes not travelling its full distance.
- Various performance improvements.
- Various small fixes.
Team Cherry also recently detailed what it intends to be the last “significant” update for Hollow Knight: Silksong before the game’s Sea of Sorrow expansion. Along with bug fixes and such, this patch also adds two major language updates. Team Cherry assured fans it has worked closely with translators to “ensure lore accuracy throughout” when translating into Traditional Chinese, while also co-ordinating with the Simplified Chinese team for “consistency on critical elements between the versions”. In addition, Silksong’s German script has had some tweaks.
As for Sea of Sorrows, it’s a nautically themed expansion for Silksong, which will include new areas, bosses, tools and more when it arrives as a free update. It is due some time this year.
On its release, we awarded Silksong five stars. “Pretty and charmingly mean-spirited, this is a game filled with revelations and genuine personality,” reads Eurogamer’s Silksong review.
