T.I. has some reservations about music enhanced with artificial intelligence, but has revealed that Dr. Dre has given him a different perspective.
A recent episode of the Atlanta rapper’s podcast expediTIously saw guest Dallas Austin ask him for his opinion on AI music.
“I think it’s dangerous, and initially I have been emphatically against it,” the “Live Your Life” rapper said. “I will say I talked to Dr. Dre and you know he was telling me about producing for Bruce Springsteen and he’s telling me that he’s using some AI stuff.”
“You still have to work be talented and programming to do what you want it to do,” he continued, adding that the technology is “an advantage.”
“And it’s almost like if everyone else has access to it and they’re using it and you’re not, then you’re going to be left out. And you’re going to be left behind,” he continued.
The entertainer also name-dropped AI artist Xania Monet, a project of poet Telisha “Nikki” Jones, who his wife, Tameka ‘Tiny’ Harris, wanted to sign.
“She’s writing the songs and she trained it with her voice, but you know, that ain’t exactly how she look and probably ain’t exactly how she sound,” T.I. said. “But it’s still her. She’s writing the music. So I think that to me is like, ‘Aight.'”
Monet found herself in some hot water earlier this week for issuing a diss track aimed at Kehlani and Jermaine Dupri, both of whom criticized the artist’s existence.
