COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – Texas A&M University will open a financial planning clinic in fall 2026 that will provide free financial guidance to community members while giving students practical experience.
The Aggie Financial Planning Clinic is funded by a gift from Schwab Advisor Services and the Charles Schwab Foundation. The clinic will serve both university students and local residents through a partnership with REACH, a nonprofit organization focused on financial stability and homeownership.
“It is truly a mutually beneficial relationship between the community, Texas A&M, and industry. So everybody wins,” said Nick Kilmer, senior lecturer in the Financial Planning Program.
Student learning and community service
Financial planning students will provide basic financial coaching on credit building, debt repayment and investments. Industry professionals will offer comprehensive financial planning services on a pro-bono basis to community members through the REACH Project.
The clinic represents a new approach for Texas A&M’s financial planning program, which emphasizes experiential learning.
“Before they even go take on that internship, before they graduate and go start working at that full-time firm, we want them to get the chance to learn soft skills,” Kilmer said. “How to speak publicly, confidently about money.”
The clinic will function as a model financial planning office, allowing students to understand how such firms operate before entering the workforce.
Community partnership
Services will be available through the REACH Project, a local nonprofit that recently expanded nationally. REACH’s mission focuses on helping community members achieve financial stability and homeownership.
Anyone can access the services through the community partnership with REACH, whose clients will become the clinic’s clients.
The clinic is scheduled to open in August 2026, pending completion of facility preparations.
