Age of Empires IV has leaned heavily into its role as a playable documentary. 8 – Sins of a Solar Empire II: Sci-Fi RTS At Its Finest
Sins of a Solar Empire II is one of my favorite RTS of all time, earning high praise in my review, and by earning the title of one of the best strategy games of 2024, when it came out. It is also the game that has perfected the blend of Grand Strategy and RTS. The introduction of moving planetary orbits fundamentally changes the strategic map as the game progresses, forcing you to adjust your supply lines and defense perimeters in real time. It is the ultimate “space opera” strategy experience of 2026.
