ATHENS – The American College of Greece (ACG) shared its latest news with The National Herald in a message from the ACG Office of Advancement.
Pierce Theater: A New Beginning
ACG announced it is deeply grateful to Alexandra Martinou, Pierce alumna, for her generous support for the Pierce Theater in Aghia Paraskevi, in memory of Athena Martinou. A proud 1945 Pierce graduate, Athena Martinou became a symbol of integrity, leadership, and service, leaving an extraordinary legacy in Greek shipping and beyond.
Alexandra Martinou’s gift honors this legacy and revitalizes a historic cultural hub designed in the 1960s by renowned architect Konstantinos Doxiades. The renovation will preserve the theater’s architectural heritage while creating a modern, accessible space where students can learn, create, and be inspired by generations to come. The project is scheduled to begin in July 2028 and be completed by December 2028.
Pierce Leadership Academy Scholarships offered by John S. Latsis Public Benefit Foundation
ACG also announced its cooperation with the John S. Latsis Public Benefit Foundation in expanding access to education through the offering of 16 full scholarships in 2026 for students participating in the STEM and STEP modules of the Pierce Leadership Academy. This support empowers talented young people aged 13-17 from diverse backgrounds to access the Academy’s leadership curriculum and develop the skills needed to shape the future.
Scholarships Supporting Student Access
Europa Insurance Co., led by Chairman and Managing Director Nikolaos Macropoulos, is providing $114,000 for expendable scholarships to Deree students through 2030, renewing their support initially offered in 2021 and ensuring that qualified students can pursue their academic goals.
Seanergy Maritime Holdings Corp has renewed its expendable scholarship providing $14,500 at Alba Graduate Business School, and ACG has launched the AFIS S.A. Expendable Scholarship to support undergraduate students pursuing the BA in Environmental Studies offering $3,500.
The Bouras Foundation has renewed its commitment with a $50,000 grant, providing one-year scholarships for four North American degree-seeking students with demonstrated financial need. These scholarships enable talented students to pursue studies at ACG while contributing to the academic and campus community.
In addition, Grant Thornton provided a new contribution of $5,800 to support a scholarship for the MA in Data Science, strengthening opportunities for students pursuing advanced studies in this high-demand field. The A.C. Laskaridis Foundation also renewed its support with a $17,500 donation, offering scholarships across multiple academic majors and continuing its longstanding commitment to broad-based student support at ACG. The Eurobank Equities scholarship was also renewed with a $8,150 grant, supporting a scholarship in the Minor in Financial Markets Trading.
Your Seat, Their Future
Olympic athlete and Deree ’25 alumnus Emmanuel Karalis (Manolo) proudly endorsed the Take Your Seat at Home campaign. Thanks to the support of their community, they are transforming ACG’s athletic facilities into spaces where future champions are made. The campaign has gathered approximately $110,000 from more than 130 donors for the two campuses.
Alumni and friends can still leave a legacy by “adopting” a seat in the Aghia Paraskevi Stadium or the new East Campus Stadium. See Manolo talking about the Campaign: https://shorturl.at/wQyWh.
