The biggest Fashion Week hair trends

Fashion Week has long been a melting pot for creativity, and as the city plays host to the seasonal London Fashion Week showcase, designers, hairstylists, make-up artists and set designers have been hard at work making their visions a reality.

Some of our favourites include Simone Rocha’s sheer and laced front dresses and tweed tailoring, not to mention the unveiling of her exciting adidas originals collaboration track tops, leotards, gym shorts and trainers. Erdem’s knitted hourglass mini coats, floral jacquard skirts and ostrich feather footwear was a major highlight, as were Emilia Wickstead strapless, structured gowns and Joseph’s powerful collection of clothing for real women.

As always, the inimitable fashion collections were a triumph, but so too were the hair looks that accompanied them. Stylist spoke to session hair stylist Anna Cofone, ambassador for Authentic Beauty Concept, about the current hair trends and what makes them so exciting, as well as the aesthetic and mood that defines each of the major fashion cities.

London Fashion Week follows Copenhagen and New York Fashion Weeks, where we have seen more of the lived-in, understated and less sculpted hair looks. We’ve seen lots of hair looks that feel authentic and believable, something that has been visible on the red carpet a lot recently, with designers leaning into models’ natural texture. Luxury minimalism is another important trend as well as healthy, touchable finishes and care as a styling trend, and finally character-driven styling, something we see plenty of at fashion week.

Anna says: “All designers are different, when I have worked on the hair for established designers like Roksanda and Erdem they are so immersed in their vision and creating their collections and the storytelling that it’s very much ‘this is the moodboard, this is the inspiration’, whereas with more emerging designers like Chet Lo he’ll share what the story is behind his collection and then he’ll leave me to play and design ideas. Each collaboration has its own nuances, but they are all really exciting.”
