Producer Jerry Bruckheimer has confirmed that there will be a follow up to 2025’s F1: The Movie.
Speaking to People, Bruckheimer said, “We’re working on the story. It’s really good. We’re talking to Lewis Hamilton. We’re getting it going through him and pitching him the ideas and see what he thinks.”
Hamilton was a producer on F1 and was responsible for keeping the filmmakers at least partially grounded in reality. If the plot—which, spoiler alert, saw Brad Pitt’s Sonny Hayes return to Formula 1 in his sixties—was unbelievable, the racing sequences were mostly credible.
Director Joe Kosinski and producer Bruckheimer consulted with the seven-time World Champion throughout the production process. In an interview with formula1.com Hamilton said, they “really welcomed my insights into the smaller details too, like the sounds a car would make when it’s at a certain position on the track, or the way a crash might happen. It’s what Joe and Jerry wanted from the start, to make the most authentic racing movie that’s ever been made.”
While Hamilton looks set to continue his role as producer on the F1 sequel, Bruckheimer is keeping quiet on whether Brad Pitt will return to his role as the aging racer. “We’ll see. I’m not going to tell you yet,” he quipped.
F1 didn’t quite take the box office pole position, but it did gross $633 million dollars worldwide. Apple Originals films was the main production company, and as Apple TV is now the official broadcast partner for F1 in the U.S.A. things certainly line up well for the sequel.
Mercedes-AMG featured heavily in F1: The Movie, with product placement and as engine suppliers for the fictional APXGP cars, while new-for-2026 teams Audi and Cadillac would surely like some big screen time as well.
Given that F1 took around four years to put together, including filming during two seasons of Formula 1 in 2023, and 2024, it will most likely be 2030 by the time the sequel hits theaters.
