With the year coming to an end, the tech world knows what’s next. Every year, anticipation for Samsung’s upcoming flagship ramps up around this time, and this year is no different.
Samsung’s Galaxy S26 series has been through significant internal turmoil, but the series now finally seems to be in a good place. Early rumors suggested that the South Korean tech giant might ditch the Galaxy S26+ in favor of a slimmer ‘Edge’ variant, though that no longer appears to be the case. The same goes for Samsung’s base Galaxy S26, which was previously rumored to take on a Pro moniker.
None of that is happening now. We’re getting a familiar Galaxy S26 series, complete with the base Galaxy S26, a Galaxy S26+, and a Galaxy S26 Ultra.
Although Samsung seems to be set on what the series will look like, it still seems to be confused about the upcoming series’ pricing.
According to a new TheBell report coming directly out of Korea, via SammyGuru, Samsung “is struggling to reduce costs. This is due to the continued rise in the price of key components, including semiconductors.”
The report adds that “rising prices and intensifying competition have also led to increased labor and marketing costs compared to previous years, making it difficult to set reasonable device sales prices.”
Samsung might be walking a tightrope
For reference, the S26 series is facing a slight delay. It is expected to be announced in the month of February, which is reportedly because of the re-addition of the S26+ and the pricing uncertainty.
Additionally, the South Korean tech giant is reportedly selling its recent Galaxy Z TriFold at a loss. Samsung can not afford to compromise profitability with the S26 series like it is doing with the Galaxy Z TriFold, which is reportedly making pricing even more difficult.
While raising the selling price might guarantee a certain level of margin, it would increase the burden on consumers and potentially reduce sales. However, maintaining the same price as the previous model would inevitably lead to a decline in profitability.
