According to Spanish YouTuber and Xbox Game Pass leaker, Extas1s, Geoff Keighley’s mysterious demon statue is allegedly teasing a reveal of Divinity Original Sin 3 for The Game Awards on December 11. The Game Awards is synonymous with huge announcements and world premiere reveals, and the unveiling of Divinity Original Sin 3 from Baldur’s Gate 3 developer, Larian, would definitely be epic.
It’s important to point out that this is just a rumor rather than anything official. On the GamingLeaksAndRumors subreddit, Extas1s is categorized as tier 4, meaning they are “generally unreliable,” although they “have gotten things right in the past”. Most of Extas1s’ reputation comes from accurately leaking additions to Xbox Game Pass, such as Octopath Traveler 2 in June 2024.
The demonic statue was first teased by The Game Awards’ host and founder, Geoff Keighley, on November 29. The statue is placed in the middle of a desert, and it features an ensemble of carvings including a crocodile, bear, fantasy armor, skulls, and ghouls. What it’s teasing will officially be revealed during The Game Awards, but for now, nothing is official.
Windows Central editor, Jez Corden, originally claimed the statue is teasing a Diablo 4 expansion, but this was quickly shut down by tier 1 insider, Jason Schreier, who is famous for pulling back the curtain on the video games industry, such as exposing the infamous crunch culture at Rockstar for Red Dead Redemption 2.
Another theory about the statue was a new God of War set in Egypt, but this was instantly debunked by God of War 2018 and Ragnarok director Cory Barlog. On ResetEra, Jason Schreier also says the statue is not teasing The Elder Scrolls 6.
Divinity Original Sin 3 leads The Game Awards’ demon statue rumors
With Diablo 4, God of War, and The Elder Scrolls 6 all debunked, Divinity Original Sin 3 is now the biggest rumor regarding what The Game Awards’ demon statue is teasing.
Divinity Original Sin is Larian’s cult classic RPG before the developer achieved massive success with Baldur’s Gate 3, winning several Game Awards, including Game of the Year in 2023. The Divinity Original Sin series started in 2002 with Divine Divinity, and the most recent installment is the Divinity Original Sin 2 Definitive edition, released in 2017.
The Divinity Original Sin series is similar to Baldur’s Gate 3 as it’s a turn-based, top-down RPG with romance options and tabletop elements. However, the biggest difference is in the presentation, as Divinity always lacked Baldur’s Gate 3’s budget, meaning none of the installments had Baldur’s Gate 3’s stellar cut-scenes, voice acting, and presentation.
Baldur’s Gate 3 had a budget estimated at over $100 million, thanks to it taking place in the world of Dungeons & Dragons and receiving financial backing from D&D’s owner, Wizards of the Coast. Larian’s future projects will not be financed by Wizards of the Coast, but the developer’s future games should still be big, thanks to their huge reputation on the back of Baldur’s Gate 3’s success.
According to Larian Studios’ CEO, Swen Vincke, the developer’s next title is “crazy ambitious,” and they are working on “two games” simultaneously. Vincke also suggests their next release may not happen until at least 2028 or 2029.
The mystery of the demon statue will soon be answered. You will be able to livestream The Game Awards on December 11 at 4:30PM PST/7:30PM EDT on YouTube, and there are other huge possibilities, such as the potential appearance of Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3, which is finalizing its title before 2025 ends.
