The Guardian newspaper has reported the death of 22 migrants in the Mediterranean Sea after spending six days aboard a rubber boat attempting to reach Europe from eastern Libya.
Greek authorities rescued 26 people off the island of Crete, where survivors reported that the boat lost its way and ran out of supplies, leading to death of several passengers.
Testimonies also indicated that the migrants were forced to throw the bodies of the victims into the sea.
Authorities announced the arrest of two individuals suspected of involvement in the smuggling operation.
