AKEL: It is not only the actions of ‘Golden Dawn’ that are criminal—fascism itself is a crime
6 March 2026, AKEL C.C. Press Office, Nicosia
The irrevocable conviction of the far-right ‘Golden Dawn’ party in Greece as a criminal organization by the Court of Appeals of the Hellenic Republic is a victory for values, a vindication of its victims, but also a necessary reminder of how far the preachers of its inhumane ideology and fascism can go. Of course, it is not only the actions and organization of ‘Golden Dawn’ that are criminal. Fascism itself is a crime, as it abolishes democracy and freedom, human rights, and social gains.
This is precisely why the normalization of the branch of the ‘Golden Dawn’ party in Cyprus by the majority of political parties and the government itself, which are turning the far right into their institutional interlocutor and partner and engaging in a electoral give-and-take with it, is even more reprehensible and unacceptable.
The irrevocable condemnation of ‘Golden Dawn’ is not the end of the struggle. It is a reminder that a constant struggle is demanded on all fronts.
