The Long Dark joins the library of Xbox Game Pass games today for Ultimate, Premium, and PC Game Pass subscribers on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, handheld, and cloud.
The Long Dark is one of the best games in the genre, thanks to its uncompromising focus on survival, where every decision you make matters, and its beautifully haunting atmosphere that fully immerses you into its unforgiving world. It’s set in the aftermath of a geomagnetic disaster, which has plunged the world into a frozen wasteland, using real-world threats like hunger, thirst, the cold, and wild animals as the enemy.
You need to use everything at your disposal if you want to survive, locating over 100 different items as you weigh up the calorie cost of each action. With few resources, starvation kicking in, permadeath sitting in the back of your mind, and a deadly world waiting for you outside, every choice you make in The Long Dark has consequences.
Alongside the famed survival mode, The Long Dark also features a narrative-driven, episodic story mode called Wintermute to experience, too, adding over 30 hours of additional content to work through. There is a lot to explore, and the game’s achievements reflect that.
Of the 97,000 TrueAchievements members who have unlocked an achievement in The Long Dark, just 157 have managed to unlock all 40 of the base game’s achievements, which task you with playing survival mode and completing the first two episodes of the Wintermute mode. Even fewer have managed to unlock everything in the game, with just 15 players unlocking all 75 The Long Dark achievements across its base game, DLC packs, and title updates.
