This week’s all about showing off and healing in community.

Show off your latest kicks at Air Max Day or immerse yourself in all things fashion at Michigan Fashion Week. Enjoy a Palestinian dance performance or a Native American hip-hop showcase.

Whatever your flavor, there’s plenty to do this weekend in Detroit. Plan away!

Thursday

🎨 Enjoy the last weekend of the NCECA Multicultural Fellowship Exhibition with a conference reception on Thursday at Wayne State Galleries. Check out the clay-based works that address cultural history and identity, community and systems of knowledge by artists like Jazzmine Curtis, Ina Kaur, Vanna Ramirez and more. The exhibition ends Saturday. Free.

👟 Link up with fellow sneakerheads on Thursday at Air Max Day in Midtown. Network with other creatives and enjoy some food while bonding over your love for the newest kicks. Don’t forget to wear your favorite Air Maxes! Free.

✨ Explore all things fashion at Canvas & Cloth, a live Detroit fashion and art experience that’s part of Michigan Fashion Week on Thursday. The three-hour celebration at The Edit will transform the space into a studio featuring live fashion design, art creation, curated sound and interactive activities so guests can learn what it’s like to bring canvases to life. $10.

This weekend

🎵 Celebrate the final week of Contemporary Anishinaabe Art: A Continuation with a hip-hop showcase on Friday at Detroit Institute of Arts. Watch animated works by Konstance Patton Ke-nee-go-keshek and Jonathan Thunder, along with performances by rappers KHALFANI and Thomas X to highlight the shared experience for Black and Native Americans. The larger exhibition is on view until April 5. Free with museum admission.

💃 Imagine healing for Palestinians at After the Last Red Sky, a dance performance and ritual gathering on Friday and Saturday at the Arab American National Museum in Dearborn. Move through grief and rage together in community with this dance trio, featuring Leila Awadallah, Noelle Awadallah and Tarek Abdelqadar. $10 for museum members, $12 for students and older adults, $15 for general admission.

🐦 Learn about the beautiful Great Blue Herons in Rouge Park on Saturday at Brennan Recreation Area. Detroit Bird Alliance and Friends of Rouge Park will help you spot the herons’ communal nest high above the park’s trees. Free.

🕺 Commemorate Yom al-Ard, or Land Day, at a Street Dabka introductory class on Sunday at The Annex. Dabke instructor Samer Karaja will teach the class, followed by an activity to demonstrate the importance of cultivating and honoring the land. Then, join them for a beginner/intermediate class on Monday. $5-10.

⚾ Baseball fans, this one’s for you. Discuss how Black Americans have shaped baseball at an author talk with Gerald Early on Sunday at the Detroit Public Library’s Main Branch. Early will use his latest book, “Play Harder: The Triumph of Black Baseball in America,” to chat about Black baseball stars and their contributions to America’s favorite pastime. Free.

🪡 Try your hand at felting at a workshop on Saturday at The Congregation. Channel your creativity and make something beautiful to take home at this beginner-friendly class with Dr. Chanel Beebe. $15 suggested donation.
