This Heritage French Bag Label Gets a British Twist This Fall

Longchamp, the storied accessories brand, is about as quintessentially French as it gets. The label’s classic Le Pliage canvas tote bags, with their leather flap closures and roomy straps, are easy to spot nearly anywhere.

Yet for fall, the French brand decided to look across the pond for inspiration and collaboration. “It’s a love letter to savoir-faire,” explains Sophie Delafontaine, Longchamp’s creative director, on the brand’s partnership with historic British label, Gloverall, which has been making its iconic duffle coats for more than 70 years (ones worn by Olympic athletes, racecar drivers, and even the band Oasis). “This collaboration was inspired by a shared appreciation for history, design, and craftsmanship,” says Delafontaine.

“Both Longchamp and Gloverall are deeply rooted in heritage—one French, one British—and have built identities on timeless style and artisanal quality,” adds Delafontaine. Together, they launched a limited edition duffle coat in two colors: nutmeg yellow and navy blue, as well as a medium-sized tote bag in both shades. The twist lies in the toggle, which features Longchamp’s signature bamboo-shaped clasp, an iconic motif of its Le Rouseau collection, which, in a full circle moment, was initially inspired over 30 years ago by Gloverall’s own duffle-coat wooden toggles.

I previewed the collection in London ahead of its official launch this Fall. First impression: I loved the material, which is made from thick wool and cut to a loose, comfortable fit (easy to wear over thick sweaters). It also includes a hood (an essential for unpredictable weather), tartan interior lining, and large flap pockets that can easily fit a phone or wallet. It does feel hefty, in a good way, an indicator of its quality.

Although I usually gravitate towards simple black coats for winter, there’s something endearing about this Paddington-esque coat, which is classic and extremely British without feeling too twee.

The collection, shot throughout London and the Cotswolds, encompasses several key styles from Longchamp’s core collection, remixed for the fall season. You’ll find sumptuous suede and shearling jackets, crisp trench coats, cozy knits, the iconic Le Pliage, now in a sleek leather and slouchy shape, and then Le Foulanné—an arch-shaped, minimalist handbag in fresh colors like nutmeg and taupe.

Ahead, shop a few of our favorites from the Longchamp fall/winter collection.
