Thomas paces American History over Newark Data Science – Boys basketball recap


Zaier Thomas scored 20 points including six 3-pointers, to lead American History to a convincing 62-30 victory over Newark Data Science at American History High School in Newark.

The win marked Head Coach Otis Anderson Jr.’s 100th victory at American History.

American History (9-12) dominated the first half, building a commanding 44-13 lead by halftime. The Eagles came out strong in the first quarter with 23 points while holding Newark Data Science to just nine points. They continued their dominance in the second quarter, outscoring the visitors 21-4.

Basheer Branch contributed 16 points, 10 rebounds, six steals and two blocks for American History. Branch’s double-double performance helped the Eagles control the paint throughout the game.

Newark Data Science (4-14) struggled offensively throughout the contest, managing just four points in the second quarter and five in the fourth. The visitors showed some improvement in the third quarter with 12 points, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the large deficit.

Jaiden Edwards dominated the boards for American History, pulling down a game-high 14 rebounds while adding six points and three assists. Jarrel Baker facilitated the offense with a team-high six assists.

American History’s defense was particularly effective, recording 18 steals as a team, with Branch leading the way with six. The Eagles also finished with 15 assists, showcasing their unselfish play.
