Prior to his death, Mark Gil Gacutan had spent years developing a career as a DJ alongside his twin brother, with whom he performed as MGMA.
Friends and fellow artists within Las Vegas’ electronic dance music community are organizing a three-day musical festival in memory of Mark Gil Gacutan, a 29-year-old DJ whose body was found at a park on March 17th after family members reported him missing.
Las Vegas police found the man’s body at Lorenzi Park following a welfare concern raised by relatives, according to local CBS affiliate KLAS 8 News. The Clark County Coroner has not released a cause of death at the time of this writing.
Gacutan DJed regularly in the city’s downtown arts corridor, where he and his twin brother, Mark Anthony Gacutan, performed together under the alias MGMA. The duo delivered opening DJ sets for various high-profile artists in recent years including Jason Ross, Kill The Noise and ALLEYCVT.
Mark Anthony described his late brother as a gifted and instinctive performer. “His technique was insane, his selections were insane,” he said. “But he was my best friend.”
The months before his brother’s death had been difficult for both of them, Mark Anthony added, because the family had recently lost two other close relatives. “My brother was having a tough time,” he said.
Mark Anthony has now organized a GoFundMe campaign to cover funeral expenses and develop a three-day music festival to celebrate the life of Mark Gil. All remaining proceeds will be directed to the Gacutan family.
“Mark Gil Gacutan was an amazing friend who meant so much to everyone in our community, especially within the EDM/DJ scene,” reads the GoFundMe page. “His energy, kindness, and passion for music brought people together and created memories that will last a lifetime. Losing Mark so suddenly has left a huge hole in our hearts, and we want to honor his legacy in a way that truly reflects the joy and unity he brought to all of us.
“We are raising funds to help cover Mark’s funeral costs and to organize a special 3-day festival weekend in his memory. “
Dates and venue details for the festival have not yet been announced. At the time of this writing, the GoFundMe has raised over $18,000 with a goal of $25,000.
