Ten models applied to take the runway at the Green Carpet event, hosted by Trend, a fashion events board and club.
Trend is open to all students interested in fashion, media and creativity. Lucia Lopez-Magallanes is Trend’s operations officer and says she’s scheduling an event per day during University of Arizona Fashion Week (UAFW).
Lopez-Magallanes organized the second-hand clothing fashion show called the Green Carpet on the second day of UAFW.
“[We’ll] be running through the models and we just want to showcase what you could do with second hand clothing from Campus Closet,” Lopez-Magallanes said.
At the Forbes Building on University of Arizona campus the music was set, attendees took their seats and the runway was open. Each model was dressed by a fashion stylist using clothing from Campus Closet, which provides free clothing to students in need.

Model and actor Jeffrey Baden walked the astroturf grass Green Carpet runway. He says second-hand clothing is something he uses in his daily life.
“I think it means a lot just because of the difference in fabric. We’re not using something that is made out of plastics or it’s going to hurt the environment, it’s something that actually helps. I love that support,” Baden said.
Briana Johnson is the creative director of the University of Arizona 2026 Fashion week, an events board connected with Trend. On the top of the stairs at the end of the runway, Johnson explained how the Green Carpet is a practice for the larger event on Saturday, March 28.
“U of A Fashion Week is more than just a fashion show. It’s a celebration of creativity, community, and the art scene of the University of Arizona,” Johnson said.
The University of Arizona Fashion Show is the largest fashion runway in Tucson, according to Lopez-Magallanes.

The theme for Saturday’s runway is ‘Festival: The Sound Shaping Our Style’ and it has some correlation to the Green Carpet’s message.
“I would say a lot of festival clothing is thrifted [as] people often make it themselves. So it ties in perfectly because a lot of what you’re going to see at festivals is also that type of clothing,” Johnson said.
Two stylists, Skylar Pollard and Ana Obeso, dressed most of the models at the Green Carpet. But Baden, who has a bigger build, got to choose his outfit.
He walked in a camo sleeveless top and black tracksuit pants. The clothing will go back to Campus Closet for future students in need.

Baden, along with 43 other models, will walk in the The University of Arizona Fashion Show this Saturday March 28 at the MSA Annex at 7:00 p.m.
Lopez-Magallanes, who is from Illinois, wants to see fashion trends connecting to identity and place to be present in each runway during Fashion Week.
“I feel like I can see the way people wear like athleisure [in Tucson] like they’re trying to look together, feel together and ultimately ‘how you look like is how you feel,’ I guess,” she said.
