Anthony Edwards #5 of the Minnesota Timberwolves reacts after making a three-point shot against the Golden State Warriors in the second half at Chase Center on March 13, 2026 in San Francisco, California.
The Minnesota Timberwolves are expected to get injured superstar Anthony Edwards (hamstring) back in the lineup imminently.
According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, Edwards has progressed to the point in his rehab where he’s considered “day-to-day” by the Timberwolves.
“The Timberwolves will be evaluating Anthony Edwards day-to-day moving forward,” Charania told ESPN’s “NBA Countdown” this week.
“…What he’s been dealing with, from my understanding, is soreness, some fluids, some inflammation in his knee,” Charania continued.
“He needed treatment to get some of the fluid out of that knee but now he is progressing, he is starting to do more and more on the court.”
Anthony Edwards Injury Update
The four-time All-Star has missed four consecutive games due to inflammation in his right knee. At the time of his injury, Edwards had played in 58 games. As such, he’ll have to appear in at least seven of Minnesota’s remaining eight games to maintain eligibility for MVP, All-NBA and other end-of-season awards.
Charania added that Edwards could either return in Saturday’s game against the Detroit Pistons or Monday’s clash against the Dallas Mavericks.
To the Timberwolves’ credit, they’ve gone 3-1 in their last four games without Edwards, including a stunning OT victory over the Houston Rockets on Wednesday.
Anthony Edwards Return Date
When Edwards went down with his injury, Timberwolves head coach Chris Finch explained why the team could stay afloat without its best player.
“We’ve been here before,” Finch said of playing through injuries, via ESPN.
“I think it’s incredible when you think about Ant playing almost 95% of the games he’s been available to play. That’s almost unheard of. But this year we’ve been without [him] more than in the past. Just got to regroup.
“We’ve got to worry about playing better basketball all the way around regardless of who’s out there. And I think we don’t need one person to try to step in and fill the scoring. It’s just better if it’s dispersed throughout the lineup.”
The Timberwolves (45-28) consolidated the fifth seed with their OT win over the Rockets on Wednesday. After the win, Rudy Gobert said his team has serious championship aspirations and believes it has the squad to reach the promised land.
“I’m so proud that we didn’t quit,” Gobert said after the stunning OT win.
“We had a lot of opportunities to get very frustrated tonight. For the most part, we were able to overcome that. That’s the blueprint for us. We want to win a championship, so we know there’s going to be adversity. We know it’s going to come in a lot of ways.”
