A three-year-old boy lost his life on Tuesday evening in Western Achaia, Greece, after a fall from a two-metre-high wall outside his home in the village of Agios Nikolaos Spaton. The child was rushed to the Karamandaneio Children’s Hospital in the nearby city of Patras but could not be saved despite doctors’ prolonged efforts to resuscitate him.
According to local reports, the incident occurred while the boy was under the supervision of his 25-year-old uncle, as the parents were working in a nearby field. For reasons still under investigation, both the uncle and the child fell from the wall, resulting in severe injuries to the toddler.
Unsuccessful Resuscitation Efforts
Emergency responders launched a large-scale operation to transport the child to hospital. Medical staff performed CPR for nearly 40 minutes, but the toddler was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. The uncle also sustained injuries and was taken to the St. Andrew’s Hospital in Patras for treatment.
Uncle Faces Negligent Homicide Charge
Police arrested the 25-year-old relative after opening a case for negligent homicide, while investigators from the Western Achaia Police Department continue to examine the precise circumstances of the accident.
A forensic examination has been ordered to determine the exact cause of death. The tragedy has deeply shocked the local community, with residents describing scenes of “ancient Greek tragedy” at the hospital where the child was pronounced dead.
