TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – Art, nature and music will combine for the perfect symphony at a Topeka school.
Ross Elementary is about to realize the big goal of creating the Rossome Musical Garden. PTO members Abriona Markham and Robin Bonsall visited Eye on NE Kansas to share the details.
The project is two years in the making. The PTO brainstormed what could be a signature feature for the school. Since Ross is Topeka Public School’s music-focused school, they decided an outdoor musical space would be the perfect fit.
The Musical Garden features various metal sculptures on which students can use mallets to create unique, musical sounds. Watch the interview to hear Abriona and Robin discuss the various community partners who made the project possible.
With construction complete, the Rossome PTO continues fundraising to create an endowment. The funds will ensure the musical garden remains in good repair and perhaps one day expand.
The ribbon cutting for the musical garden at Ross Elementary School is 10 a.m. April 4, with the community invited to try it out during a School Carnival 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 11. Ross Elementary is located at 1400 SE 34th St.
