‘Trashion Fashion’ tips April 7, fashion show April 25 | Community

A professional seamstress for 20 years, Megan Larkin learned her trade working in custom clothing and costume shops making everything from trapeze and dance costumes to wedding gowns and opera costumes. She recently began working with a group of Riverway Learning Community students to guide the design and creation of garments built from trash and recyclables: bottle caps, candy wrappers, animal food bags, packaging materials, discarded fabrics, plastic bags and more!

These garments and accessories, along with their environmental impact stories, will command the red carpet at Earth Day’s Trashion Fashion Show in Winona on April 25, hosted at Riverway Learning Community. Want to discover some fun ways to turn your own trash into fashion? Join in on April 7 from 4-6 p.m. at the East Recreation Center. No registration required. Also, join the red carpet on April 25 with your own creation! To participate, email Lydia at lboysen@riverwaylearningcommunity.org.

Winona’s Earth Day celebration is on Saturday, April 25, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Riverway Learning Community, 1200 Storrs Pond Road, Winona. Other even highlights include a Procession of the Species, Free Market & Fix-It Stations, and community partners providing information, activities, goods and delicious food and drink. Funding from the Winona Community Foundation and its granting committee helped make this important event possible.
