Country music singer and songwriter Cooper Alan released his debut album this month. He’s a Piedmont Triad native. He was born and raised in Winston-Salem, and even named his debut, double album after his hometown and the city he loves so much.The album itself is called ‘Winston-Salem.’Cooper stopped by WXII 12 this week to catch up with us about his music journey and what’s next. “This place shaped me a lot,” said Alan. “And it was really good to me growing up.”That’s why he felt ‘Winston-Salem’ would be the perfect name for his first official album.”It meant a lot to be able to name it Winston-Salem,” he said. “It is a double album– so it kind of needed two words. Winston-Salem is two words, so it fits perfectly.”His songwriting comes from the heart. He sings a lot from his personal experiences.”I write a lot about what I am going through,” Alan said. “I write about family, love, life– and just storytelling and what I’m living. I also like the crazy stuff, though, that’s off the wall– where people listen and are kind of like, ‘what the heck is going on here?'”Cooper Alan’s success skyrocketed online, as his social media audience continuously grows– with millions of followers across his many platforms.As he chases his own dream of topping country music charts, he encourages others to chase their own.”You just have to do it,” he said. “And I know that’s cliché– but, with social media, you can get on there and reach a lot of people no matter where you are or where you’re from.”Cooper says he’s proud to be from the Piedmont Triad and credits the city of Winston-Salem for helping not only shape his past, but also mold his future.”You hear some artists talk about how they were bullied in their hometown,” Alan said. “And it’s been the total opposite being from Winston-Salem– so we are all lucky to be from here.”Cooper Alan made his debut on NBC’s ‘The Today Show’ earlier this month.You can find his music on most streaming platforms.He’s also preparing to be a first-time dad!His album, ‘Winston-Salem,’ is out now.
