Truckee Gaming gets licensing approval for former Poker Palace in North Las Vegas | Casinos & Gaming

The Nevada Gaming Commission has licensed Club Fortune Casino North, a sister property to a small Henderson casino that will take over the building once occupied by the Poker Palace in North Las Vegas.

Commissioners on Thursday unanimously approved licensing to Sparks-based Truckee Gaming LLC to operate the casino with plans to reopen in mid-April after an extensive remodeling.

When the former Poker Palace opens as Club Fortune, it won’t offer the game that made it famous – poker – nor any other table games. But what it will have is a race and sports book that will take wagers on horse racing.

Truckee Gaming owner Ferenc Szony said interest in horse racing has been fading nationwide, but after consulting with Boomer’s Sportsbook operator Joe Asher, who’s company will oversee sports wagering at the property, it was decided to keep the parimutuel horse racing component.

Top managers have already been hired for the casino with about 100 more jobs to fill. Szony said he is reaching out to former employees of the Poker Palace to fill positions first and that others may be hired to fill all the positions.

Truckee Gaming acquired the Poker Palace in the fall and closed it Oct. 1 for its remodeling. He said the new look for Club Fortune North is “if Excalibur and Circus Circus had a baby, this is what it would look like.”

The Boomer’s Sportsbook licensing, also approved unanimously by the commission, was one of three Boomer’s approvals Thursday. Commissioners also approved sportsbook licenses for Boomer’s at Grand Lodge Casino in Incline Village with Gaming Entertainment Nevada LLC, and at Stockman’s Casino in Fallon with Clarity Game Opco LLC.

The approvals keep Boomer’s on pace to be the fastest growing sportsbook company in the state.
