A massive legal bomb just dropped — a federal judge has dismissed the charges against former FBI Director James Comey and New York Attorney General Tish James. This is a huge blow to Trump’s efforts to prosecute people he sees as political enemies. The judge ruled that the prosecutor running both cases, Lindsey Halligan, was illegally appointed. And because of that? Everything she indicted gets tossed. Quick reminder: Halligan is a Trump ally and personal lawyer with zero prosecutorial experience. Yet she was appointed U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia after the previous attorney refused to charge Comey. And Halligan’s Comey case? It was already a mess — error-filled, sloppy, and on the verge of collapse anyway. But today’s ruling doesn’t even get into the mistakes. It’s about whether she was legally allowed to have that job in the first place. Normally, U.S. attorneys must be Senate-confirmed. If there’s a vacancy, the Attorney General can pick an interim attorney for 120 days. After that, if no Senate confirmation happens, federal judges pick a temporary replacement. But the DOJ argued AG Pam Bondi could just “reset the clock” and keep re-appointing Halligan every 120 days. Comey and James’ lawyers calling it an “illegal loophole.” The judge agreed. She did say the DOJ can try to re-indict with a properly appointed prosecutor — but Comey’s case may already be out of time. Meaning… Trump’s attempts to prosecute Comey may be dead in the water. But of course — with Trump — you never know what comes next.
