It’s no secret that Apple continues to phase out its “iTunes” brand, especially starting with macOS Catalina, where Apple notably discontinued its iTunes app in favor of three rather straightforward apps: Music, TV, and Podcasts. Now, with the initial beta of tvOS 26.4, Apple removed both the iTunes Movies and iTunes TV Shows apps, which could allow you to find content for one-time purchases. Nowadays, Apple has been transitioning to the TV app instead, where you can find the “Store” section to find the same content there.
With the current version of tvOS, when you go to either of those aforementioned apps, it will inform you that purchasable content, including the ones you already purchased, has been relocated to the main Apple TV app. Apple already started this transition with both the iPhone and iPad TV apps with the launch of iOS 17.2 and iPadOS 17.2, respectively. Those updates infamously ditched the iTunes wishlists, which sparked outrage among customers, prompting Apple to bring it back for a brief period of time until the company recently sent out emails about the discontinuation of the said feature. Those emails also instructed users on how to migrate those lists to the Apple TV watchlist feature if they so wish to retain their wishlists.
As Apple continues to unify the experience of buying and watching TV shows and movies into one app, the iPhone still has the iTunes Store app from the App Store, and only the Music section is currently active.
tvOS 26.4 also brings nice enhancements across the board, including Spatial Audio in place of Dolby Atmos immersive, as well as a new Continuous Audio Connection option for HDMI output.
