This December, UGA Presents plans to host four holiday music performances at the University of Georgia’s Hodgson Concert Hall within the Performing Arts Center. Acts will include the a cappella group Voctave, the celtic traditional group Lúnasa, banjo virtuoso Béla Fleck & The Flecktones and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra.
The shows are all a part of UGA Presents’ 2025 Holiday Music Series, according to a UGA Performing Arts Center press release. Each show is meant to get Athenians into the holiday spirit with a variety of styles all within the theme of the winter season.
The first show will be Voctave’s “It Feels Like Christmas” on Dec. 5 at 7:30 p.m. The 11 member group will perform carols, contemporary holiday tunes and Disney selections. The show will be sponsored by Dr. Maxine and John Rofrano.
The second show, Lúnasa’s “An Irish Solstice Celebration” on Dec. 10, will blend Irish traditional music with winter symbolism and seasonal spirit. The group, which has been performing together for nearly 30 years, is named after an ancient Celtic harvest season festival. The concert is supported by James and Leslie de Haseth.
Following this will be Béla Fleck & The Fleckstones “Jingle All the Way” on Dec. 18. Much of their music will be drawn from their album of the same name, an album that “merges jazz improvisation, bluegrass roots, classical flair, world-music textures and unmistakable rhythmic playfulness” according to the release.
The Béla Fleck & The Fleckstones show will also feature special guests, including saxophonist Jeff Coffin and the Tuvan throat-singing group Alash. The event is sponsored by Sandy Strother Hudson and Cecil C. Hudson.
For the final performance on Dec. 21, the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and Chamber Chorus will take the stage at 3 p.m. for “Handel’s Messiah.” They will perform the Christmas portion of George Frideric Handel’s “Messiah,” which is known for its “Hallelujah” chorus. The show will open with Mozart’s “Coronation Mass.” The event is supported by David Coker and Sharon Price.
Tickets are available on the UGA Performing Arts Center website, or by phone and in person at the UGA Performing Arts Center Box Office.
