Naftogaz of Ukraine and the Greek state-owned company DEPA Commercial have signed a Letter of Intent for the supply of natural gas to Ukraine during the winter period, as part of the meeting between President Volodymyr Zelensky and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
According to Ukrinform, this was reported by the press service of the Office of the President of Ukraine, reports Telegraph.
“Our agreements with Greece today are an important part of the large energy package that we have prepared for this winter to ensure Ukraine’s gas supply. I want to thank you once again, my dear friend. I thank your team and the companies that made this possible,” Volodymyr Zelensky said.
As further noted, the document was signed by the Chairman of the Board of Naftogaz of Ukraine, Serhii Koretskyi, and the Executive Director of the Greek state-owned company DEPA Commercial Konstantinos Xifaras.
Under the future agreement, gas transportation to Ukraine will be carried out via a route jointly supported by the gas transmission system operators of five European countries.
The President and the Prime Minister also discussed long-term agreements for receiving natural gas from the United States via Greece.
As reported by Ukrinform, in his morning speech today, Zelensky stated that the gas agreement with Greece for Ukraine has already been prepared.
He noted that this would create another gas supply route to maximize the security of Ukraine’s winter gas import paths.
In addition, the Ukrainian president assured that agreements on financing gas imports have already been reached.
According to him, the Ukrainian government has allocated funds for import financing; European banks are assisting with guarantees from the European Commission, as well as Norway, and active work continues with American partners.
Full financing will be provided, Zelensky assured. /Telegraph
