Ukraine Just Got A Bunch Of Giant Howitzers From Greece

Back in October, Greek newspaper Efimerida ton Syntakton reported that the Greek government was considering donating, via a Czech-led ammunition initiative, 60 surplus U.S.-made M-110 howitzers and a whopping 150,000 203-millimeter shells for the M-110s and Ukraine’s dozens of broadly similar ex-Soviet 2S7s.

It seems Efimerida ton Syntakton was right. The first photo has appeared online depicting one of the heavyweight M-110s in service with the Ukrainian army’s 52nd Separate Artillery Brigade.

The 31-ton, 13-person M-110 is more than 60 years old but still powerful. It fires a 200-pound shell 16 miles—or 19 miles with rocket assistance. The big gun’s arrival in Ukraine, along with a substantial stock of shells, should help revitalize the Ukrainian artillery corps’ heaviest batteries.
