MONROE, La. – The University of Louisiana Monroe (ULM) is proud to announce that its Medical Laboratory
Science (MLS) Professional Program has earned full 10-year re-accreditation from the
National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS)—the maximum accreditation
period awarded. The program received no deficiencies, a distinguished achievement
that reflects the program’s commitment to excellence, academic rigor, and high professional
standards.

This accomplishment highlights the program’s strong outcomes in student preparedness,
faculty expertise, curriculum quality, and clinical partnerships, ensuring graduates
are ready to meet critical workforce needs in clinical laboratories and hospital systems
across Louisiana and beyond.

Medical Laboratory Scientists play an essential role in healthcare, performing vital
laboratory testing that informs up to 70% of medical decisions, including the diagnosis
and treatment of disease.

Excellence Through Commitment

ULM MLS Program Director Jessica Lasiter praised the faculty and clinical partners
who contributed to the accreditation success.

“The MLS faculty invested extensive time, dedication, and thoughtful attention into
the NAACLS self-study and site visit process,” said Lasiter. “Most importantly, every
day—not just during accreditation cycles—our faculty are deeply passionate about teaching
effectiveness and student success. We are committed to ensuring our MLS students gain a
strong foundation in the laboratory sciences, develop ethical and analytical critical-thinking
skills, and graduate prepared to serve patients and the profession with excellence.”

Preparing the Future Laboratory Workforce

ULM’s MLS program is known for exceptional student outcomes, including strong certification
exam pass rates, high employment placement, and successful advancement into leadership
roles and graduate programs.

Students benefit from immersive laboratory instruction, state-of-the-art technology,
and partnerships with leading hospital systems throughout the region.

A Significant Milestone for Healthcare Education in Louisiana

The 10-year re-accreditation positions ULM as a leader in medical laboratory science
education and reaffirms its mission to support the healthcare infrastructure of Louisiana
and the nation.
