Ultimate Cozy Gaming, fall dance concerts, world music this week – Northern Star


In this Weekly Writeup, you can find events such as a film screening, a world music series, a gaming extravaganza brought to you by three gaming organizations and more. 

LOTERÍA GAME NIGHT 

Date and Time: 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday 

Location: Latino Center 

The Latino Resource Center will be holding their monthly Lotería game night where players will have the chance to win prizes. Lotería is a card game similar to bingo. This event is free for all to attend. 

NIU JAZZ ENSEMBLE 

Date and Time: 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday 

Location: Music Building, Boutell Memorial Concert Hall 

The NIU Jazz Ensemble will perform Monday, led by director Rodrigo Villanueva. Tickets are free for NIU students, $7 for the general public and $5 for seniors, staff and non-NIU students. 

FILM SCREENING: “VIETNAMERICA” 

Date and Time: 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday 

Location: Altgeld Hall, Room 125

Join 25 universities in a film screening and discussion of “Vietnamerica” over Zoom. The film follows the perspective of Master Nguyen Hoa, a survivor of the many wars in Vietnam, as he revisits former refugee camps in Southeast Asia to search for the graves of his wife and children. The screening is free for all to attend. 

ULTIMATE COZY GAMING NIGHT 

Date and Time: 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday

Location: Altgeld Hall, Room 100 

NIU Esports, Huskie Gaming and Gaming for All are collaborating to present the Ultimate Cozy Gaming Night, where visitors are welcome to enjoy a variety of video and tabletop games, decorate cookies and enjoy hot chocolate. Visitors are welcome to bring their own consoles and games to the event. 

WORLD MUSIC FALL SERIES

Dates and Times: 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday; 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Thursday; 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday 

Location: Music Building

The NIU World Music Program will hold three performances this week as part of their 2025 World Music Fall Series. These concerts will feature music of East Asia, Thailand and Laos, and Mexico. The first two concerts are free and tickets for the third concert are free for NIU students, $15 for the general public and $10 for seniors, staff and non-NIU students. 

TRANSGENDER DAY OF REMEMBERANCE 

Date and Time: 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday 

Location: Peters Campus Life Building; Gender and Sexuality Resource Center, Room 132

Join the GSRC in celebrating Transgender Day of Remembrance, an annual observance that honors the lives of those lost to anti-transgender violence. 

CRAFTING COMMUNITY AT THE PICK MUSEUM 

Date and Time: 10 a.m. to noon Friday

Location: Cole Hall, Pick Museum of Anthropology, Room 114 

Join fellow Huskies for a relaxing, informal crafting session. Visitors are welcome to try the week’s featured activity or bring their own projects and supplies. Crafting supplies will be provided for all attendees. 

FALL DANCE CONCERT 

Dates and Times: 7:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday; 2 p.m. Saturday; 7:30 p.m. Saturday; 2 p.m. Sunday 

Location: Stevens Building, O’Connell Theatre

The NIU School of Theatre and Dance will be performing their annual Fall Dance Concert showcasing their dancers. Tickets are free for NIU students, $20 for the general public, $18 for seniors and staff and $12 for non-NIU students. The 7:30 p.m. Saturday performance will feature an additional talkback following the performance.
