Dallas rap metal outfit UnityTX just dropped the music video for “STFU,” the fourth single from their upcoming album, Somewhere, in Between…. Aggressive and affirming, the track offers defiance in the face seemingly endless strife within and without. The guitars hit hard and groove in equal measure while the bass makes sure that sense of existential dread never lets up during the breaks. Special shout-out the Nas reference in the third verse:
I see life as matrimony / Sometimes a bitch, but I don’t dare to curse the gift I’m honing
Lead singer Jay Webster (aka Shaolin G) digs into the song’s meaning:
‘STFU’ is a song that evokes a sense of insignificance in the face of the vastness of the world. Once the haze of success dissipates, you realize how precarious mental stability feels amidst growing pains, increased exposure, and the constant barrage of online opinions about you. Ultimately, my goal is to avoid the noise, but I’m surrounded by constant challenges that test my limits. It often seems easier to cut ties than to immerse myself in a system that will always find fault in every approach.
Celebrating Somewhere, in Between…’s March 13th release, UnityTX will tour along with Heavy//Hitter and BOLTCUTTER in support of Varials on their Where the Light Leaves Release Tour.
