University of Florida hosts interactive science fair for kids

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) -On Saturday, families at Depot Park got to experience fun-filled activities with science at the ninth annual science fair hosted by UF’s Department of Physics.

Students and Staff from UF set up interactive booths covering all different areas of science.

Kids had the chance to learn about the scientific method through demonstrations and activities.

Laura Bleacha, an associate professor at UF said these types of events can help children picture themselves in scientific careers.

“We want kids to start planting a seed of that sense of belonging, so that they can see themselves as a scientist,” Bleacha said. “So thats one of the other reasons these events are so important.”

The event also recognized the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, which was on Feb. 11.
