ATHENS – March 30, 2026: The United States is stepping up efforts to enhance Europe’s energy security by increasing liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports through Greece, according to US Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle.
In a post on X, Guilfoyle stressed that energy policy is now directly tied to geopolitical stability.
“We are delivering results by increasing US LNG flows through Greece to Southeast Europe and Ukraine, diversifying supply, and reinforcing that energy security is national security.”
Greece at the centre of regional energy strategy
Greece is emerging as a key energy hub for Southeast Europe, playing a central role in the transfer of US LNG to European markets and Ukraine.
Strategic infrastructure such as LNG terminals and interconnectors allows gas to flow northward, reducing reliance on traditional suppliers and strengthening regional resilience.
The so-called “Vertical Corridor”—linking Greece with Bulgaria, Romania, and beyond—is a cornerstone of this strategy.
Regional engagement and next steps
Guilfoyle also confirmed she will travel to Bucharest and Sofia to participate in The Economist Roundtable and hold talks with regional partners.
These discussions will focus on expanding energy cooperation and further strengthening the corridor connecting Greece to wider European markets.

The initiative forms part of the broader US energy agenda aimed at diversifying global energy supply chains and limiting vulnerabilities amid ongoing geopolitical tensions.
