‘Venom’ Animated Movie in the Works at Sony With ‘Final Destination Bloodlines’ Duo Directing

After three live action movies starring Tom Hardy, Sony is bringing the popular monster Venom back to the big screen with a brand new animated movie, THR reports this weekend.

According to the outlet, Final Destination Bloodlines directing duo Adam B. Stein and Zach Lipovsky will direct the Venom animated movie for Sony Pictures Animation.

The Hollywood Reporter notes, “Tom Hardy is understood to be involved in some capacity as well. It is unclear whether he would produce or even return to voice Venom as well after starring in the studio’s recent trio of live-action movies as Eddie Brock.”

Sony Pictures Animation is reportedly opening up a writers room to crack the story.

Writer David Michelinie and artist Todd McFarlane created Venom, first introduced as the character we know and love today in The Amazing Spider-Man #300 (May 1988).

The goo-like alien symbiote most famously fused with Eddie Brock, the Marvel Comics character played by Tom Hardy across the three recent live-action Venom movies.

Originally presented as a villain targeting Spider-Man, Venom eventually evolved into more of an anti-hero, with the live action movies taking that approach with the character.

Venom, Venom: Let There Be Carnage, and Venom: The Last Dance scared up nearly $2 billion at the box office, so it’s no surprise that Sony doesn’t plan on letting the character go anytime soon. And let’s not forget that Sony Pictures Animation is behind the animated Spider-Verse movies, which suggests a bright future ahead for Marvel’s symbiote on the big screen.

Stay tuned for more on the Venom animated movie as we learn it.
