Virtual public hearing tonight on statewide school finances

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) – The Healey-Driscoll Administration hosts its latest listening session to hear the public’s feedback on the Chapter 70 school finance formula on Tuesday.

This formula is designed to distribute education aid to local and regional school districts, dependent on factors like enrollment and specific needs, which promotes educational equity.

The session is virtual, from 4 to 7 p.m., giving residents from all over Massachusetts an equal opportunity to comment.

When asked about the public hearing, Education Secretary Dr. Patrick Tutwiler said in part, “Chapter 70 is the foundation for how we fund our schools. This is an opportunity for the public to help shape the future of a system that affects every student in Massachusetts…We strongly encourage our educators, families, community leaders and stakeholders to attend these sessions and let us know what is working and where we need to make changes.”
