HUDSON VALLEY, NY — Each week, Patch will be highlighting volunteer opportunities in the Lower Hudson Valley, courtesy of Volunteer New York!. This is a chance to help your community and be an opportunity to give back — perhaps in a way you didn’t consider before.
Citizen Science Volunteers will help the Rye Nature Center monitor the endangered American Eel as it migrates through the Blind Brook from the Atlantic Ocean. From March to June, a team of staff and volunteers will check nets during low tide to count, weigh, and re-release eels. All volunteers will be provided with training and supplies (including waders and wading gloves); this activity is perfect for volunteers with an interest in conservation as well as students and families ages 15+ (or 8+ with an adult).

The New York Milk Bank is seeking two to three volunteers to assist with assembling boxes and unpacking milk shipments, as well as sanitizing reusable cooler bags after they are unpacked. Volunteers must be able to lift up to 30 pounds. Volunteers must be 21+.
Date: Select weekdays from 11 a.m.-12 p.m.

The Daisy Dream Project is looking for five motivated volunteers to join its Community Outreach Team to support its signature fundraiser of the year. Volunteers help secure the critical funding needed to support children and families by making professional, friendly phone calls to potential partners and sponsors. During these calls, volunteers share the organization’s mission—inclusion, access, and care—and invite businesses to support the fundraiser event. Volunteers must be 18+.

BluePath Service Dogs is seeking volunteers who live within 45 minutes of its Wappingers Falls facility to welcome a breeder mom (brood) and her pups into their homes for approximately five weeks. Home Litter Care Volunteers provide early socialization and care for young future service dogs while also offering love and support to their mom. The time commitment varies dependent on the size of the litter but includes intensive cleaning, regular feeding, walking the brood, and daily grooming. All equipment and supplies are provided (with the exception of newspaper). Volunteers must be 25+.
