Stephen Curry #30 of the Golden State Warriors looks on during a break in the action in the fourth quarter of the game against the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden on March 15, 2026 in New York City.
The Golden State Warriors dropped their fifth straight game on Sunday night when they blew a 21-point lead against the New York Knicks. With just 15 games left in the regular season, there’s growing uncertainty about Stephen Curry (knee injury) returning to the lineup in the lead-up to the playoffs.
The Warriors, though, remain very confident that their best player will return at some point before the end of the 82-game regular season slate.
“Well, we expect him back,” Kerr told NBC Sports’ Bob Costas.
“He’s trending in the right direction. It’s been a tricky injury, but I think he’ll be back for sure. We just don’t know if it’s going to be a week or two or whatever. It’s a day-to-day process.”
Stephen Curry Injury Update
Kerr also praised Curry as a “team guy” for traveling with the team for their ongoing six-game road trip, which began with a stop in New York on Sunday and will continue with visits to the Washington Wizards, Boston Celtics, Detroit Pistons, Atlanta Hawks and Dallas Mavericks. One might assume that Curry could return at some point during this stretch, as he wouldn’t have made the trip if he weren’t close to a full recovery.
The Warriors were also without Draymond Green (back), Al Horford (calf), Seth Curry (thigh), De’Anthony Melton (knee management) and Kristaps Porzingis (illness) on Sunday, and yet had a 21-point lead against the Knicks on the road with Brandin Podziemski (25 points, six assists), a returning Quinten Post (22 points, three blocks) and Gui Santos (20 points, seven assists, seven rebounds) leading the charge.
Warriors Injury Woes
While Curry, who missed his 17th straight game on Sunday, could return at some point during the road trip, the Warriors have already ruled out Horford and Seth Curry for at least one more week. Still, though, Kerr is very happy with Curry’s progress.
“Just feels better when he’s in the room,” Kerr said of Curry after Sunday’s game.
“He was in our meeting today, he got a workout in this morning. So he’s trending in the right direction and he’s in good spirits, and just having him on the trip is important for our morale.”
The Warriors are 9-19 without Stephen Curry this season, including 5-12 over the current stretch dating back to early February. Curry last played on Jan. 30.
“He’s just one of one and this is the longest stretch that I can remember being without him since I think it was 2020 when he missed the basically the whole season,” Kerr said, referring to the 2019-20 season when Curry played just five games.
“So yeah, we miss him. We miss watching him.”
