Seth Curry of the Golden State Warriors reacts after being fouled in front of the Utah Jazz bench.
The Golden State Warriors will take a cautious approach with Seth Curry after his long-awaited return to the court.
Golden State has ruled Curry out for Tuesday’s home matchup against the Chicago Bulls due to left sciatic injury management, according to the NBA’s official injury report.
The decision comes just one day after Curry made his comeback from a lengthy absence in the Warriors’ 119–116 loss to the Utah Jazz at Delta Center.
While the veteran guard looked sharp in his first game back, the Warriors are prioritizing long-term health as the regular season enters its final stretch.
Seth Curry Returns After Missing 40 Games With Back Injury
Curry returned Monday after missing 40 games with persistent back issues linked to sciatic nerve pain.
Despite the long layoff, the veteran guard wasted little time making an impact.
Curry scored 13 points in just 12 minutes, providing an offensive spark off the bench as Golden State rallied from an 11-point fourth-quarter deficit to briefly tie the game with just over three minutes remaining.
Utah ultimately held on down the stretch, but Curry’s performance offered encouraging signs for the Warriors.
The veteran guard also dished out three assists and grabbed one rebound. He shot 4-of-6 from the field and made two three-pointers.
Seth Curry Details Difficult Recovery From Sciatic Injury
After the game, Curry revealed just how challenging the road back had been.
What began as a seemingly minor back issue quickly escalated into something far more serious.
“I just had a minor pain in my back,” Curry said. “It just kept getting worse and worse and then it hit a tipping point.”
At its worst, the injury left him nearly immobilized for an extended period.
“There was like a month where I couldn’t move at all,” Curry said. “I really couldn’t move. I was just laying at home.”
The lengthy rehabilitation forced Curry to rebuild his body gradually through months of treatment and conditioning work.
Even during the process, he admitted there were moments when he questioned whether he would return this season.
“I’ve been working hard this past however many months to try to get back,” Curry said. “I didn’t know if I would make it back at all, but it’s good to get out there, get my feet wet, and try to contribute in whatever way I can.”
All-Star Break Marked Turning Point in Seth Curry’s Rehab
Curry said the breakthrough in his recovery came during the NBA’s All-Star break.
That stretch allowed him to intensify his rehabilitation and eventually participate in live basketball activity again.
“I think over the All-Star break I made a jump,” Curry said. “I was working on continuing rehab and came back and played some live action. That’s when I knew I’d be able to get back eventually.”
Watching from the sidelines during the Warriors’ injury-filled season also added motivation.
“I feel like I could have helped,” Curry said. “All the injuries and all the stuff going on, I feel like I could have helped throughout the season to put us in a better spot.”
Warriors Managing Seth Curry Carefully After Return
Golden State’s decision to sit Curry against Chicago reflects the organization’s cautious approach after such a long absence.
Back and nerve-related injuries can be particularly unpredictable, and the Warriors appear determined to avoid any setbacks.
Curry’s efficient showing on Monday demonstrated that he can still contribute immediately when available.
Seth Curry’s Ability to Contribute Without Rhythm
Curry said one reason he was able to produce quickly after months away is a skill he has honed throughout his career — entering games without rhythm and still delivering offensively.
“Luckily, my whole career I’ve been a guy who could sit and jump in,” Curry said. “For whatever reason, I’ve had a knack for coming in with no rhythm and being able to contribute.”
The veteran sharpshooter said he intentionally trains for that scenario during workouts.
“I actually do work on just trying to make shots cold,” Curry said. “It’s something that helped me stick in the league and get a chance.”
Warriors Hoping Seth Curry Can Provide Late-Season Boost
Although Curry will sit out Tuesday’s game against Chicago, the Warriors remain hopeful that he can become a key contributor during the final weeks of the regular season.
Golden State has battled injuries throughout the year, and Curry’s shooting ability could provide an important boost off the bench.
For now, however, the team’s priority remains ensuring that his return from one of the most difficult stretches of his career is handled with care.
