Kane Parsons brings his chilling Backrooms story to the big screen this year thanks to A24, and the first teaser is out now.
Today, A24 revealed the first teaser for Backrooms, a new film based on the viral YouTube series of the same name:
Admittedly there’s not a whole lot going on in this teaser, but it’s a very deliberate choice.If you’re not familiar with the concept of Backrooms, it stems from an older creepypasta that plays on the ideas of liminal spaces and the potential terrors that could lurk within.
Back in 2022, Kane Parsons (also known online as Kane Pixels) created a series of short films on YouTube based on these ideas and they immediately took the internet by storm. It’s blend of analog horror and found footage, along with an intriguing slow burn story made it highly appealing. It’s garnered a big following and helped bring the entire concept into the mainstream.
Thus, this teaser feels pretty fitting. Much like the idea of Backrooms in general there’s something distinctly…off about it. The fear comes from the sensation that you know something is wrong, but can’t quite put your finger on it. Something this teaser manages to capture pretty well.
Throw in a solid cast that includes Chiwetel Ejiofor, Renate Reinsve, Mark Duplass, Finn Bennett, and Lukita Maxwell, and you can color me intrigued.
Backrooms hits theaters on May 29, 2026.
