Watsonville Community Hospital is seeing a financial improvement with a reported net income of $90,000, after previously being down $22 million and facing multiple setbacks.The CEO said the hospital benefits from the “Hospital Feed Program,” which has been significantly delayed due to hold-ups at CMS and the federal government. “So we’re waiting on approvals there so that cash can start coming back to us,” the CEO said.The program typically provides $16 to $18 million in net benefits, helping offset losses for taking care of Medi-Cal patients, according to the CEO.Some hurdles remain, with the facility still recovering from a cyber attack back in 2024. “We had some cash flow challenges because we weren’t able to build as we were recovering from that cyber incident,” the CEO said. “We were about 1 in 1500 health care organizations in the country that experienced one of those.”A new report to the hospital shows part of the improvements involves staffing and patient intake. “We have a lot more patients who are coming to see us and get care here with us with a number of new physicians that we’ve been able to recruit,” the CEO said.For now, hospital staff are managing the hold-up in funding for the Hospital Feed Program.
