We test drove the new Corvette. Why it’s a ‘bargain’ at $200K

The king of the the king of the hill is back in my opinion, Jerry, you know, you mentioned a thousand horsepower. You’re talking about a twin turbo V8 engine. Uh look at the the the styling of the car is very alien-like, but that means it’s got great down force, great aerodynamics, unbelievable grip and let you just turn in that car just turns where you want to go.

00:13 Speaker B

Yeah, I was going to ask about your your test drive. what stood out?

00:14 Speaker A

Yeah. Yeah. Um so basically off off the top, just immense straight line speed, just 1,000 horse power to the rear wheels only. It’s pretty nuts. Uh it was kind of scary fast and I was on public roads so I couldn’t go too crazy. Uh but I think what also struck out struck out to me, Jerry, was the fact that you go into a sharp turn, just turn the car, it just turns flat. There’s no there’s no wallow or no push. It just goes where you want to be because it’s a rear rear engine mounted car. Uh it’s just an unbelievable uh performance machine that GM makes uh for, you know, $200,000, which I think in my in my opinion, I think is a relative bargain. Now, it’s a lot of money, but if you can afford it, I think this car is an amazing value.

Talk to us, uh compare it to an EV for instance, because I remember when the Tesla first came out, it was moderately priced versus a Lamborghini, for instance, but it just had insane pickup. And how does the pickup compare and the handling compare in a in a high-performance EV versus a Z01?

01:10 Speaker A

You know, like a Tesla Model S plaid will would would would actually either tie it or beat it from a 0 to 60 time, right? Sub two second, 2 versus 2.3 seconds. So EVs are quick as hell. But the Corvette would dust it at a track, right? It just can’t hang with the Corvette’s ability to to agility, uh high-speed cornering, uh braking at the last second. Like the Corvette’s basically a supercar, right? And that’s where I sort of allude to, Jerry, the fact that, you know, you can get a Lamborghini or Ferrari that can rival that production, but it’s going to cost you at least twice as much, maybe even three times as much. And I think that’s where the

You can buy American.

01:40 Speaker A

Yeah, exactly. Bowling Green, Kentucky where this car is made, right? So this car is just GM just sort of, I don’t know how they did it, but they made a supercar for a third of the price. Uh the question is for a lot of people that buy these cars, they have a lot of money, they want the prestige, they want the exotic carmaker. Is it a Lamborghini Ferrari? Not, not really. But if you really want the best performance for the for the dollar, I think you can’t go wrong with this car.
