Victor Wembanyama earned his third consecutive Western Conference Defensive Player of the Month title as he continues to boost his MVP resume ahead of the playoffs.
SAN ANTONIO — The NBA announced Thursday that Victor Wembanyama has been named the Western Conference Defensive Player of the Month for March, marking his third consecutive win and fourth overall this season.
Wembanyama delivered a dominant defensive stretch across 15 games, totaling 180 rebounds, a league-best 56 blocks and 20 steals. He averaged 5.06 combined steals and blocks per game, commonly referred to as “stocks.” His 3.73 blocks per game led the league for the month, while his 1.33 steals per game further highlighted his defensive versatility.
He recorded 10 games with at least four blocks and six games with two or more steals. Wembanyama also closed the month strongly, posting four consecutive games with at least 15 rebounds. Opponents shot just 40.9% against him during March, and his defensive rating of 99.8 ranked second in the league.
For the season, Wembanyama is averaging 24.7 points, 11.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 3.07 blocks and 1.05 steals in 29.2 minutes per game. He leads the NBA in blocks per game and ranks fifth in rebounding. He has recorded at least three blocks in 34 games and has tallied at least one block and one steal in 40 contests.
Behind Wembanyama’s presence, the San Antonio Spurs rank second in the league in rebounding at 47.0 per game, fourth in opponent field goal percentage at 45.0% and seventh in opponent scoring at 111.0 points per game. San Antonio holds a 28-4 record when limiting opponents to fewer than 110 points and is 44-8 when outrebounding its opponent.
The Spurs are currently riding their second 10-game winning streak of the season as they creep up on the No. 1 seed with a handful of games left before their first playoff appearance since 2019.
