From chasing rabbits to baseball games, and from schoolwork to life’s little frustrations, Charlie Brown and his friends came alive on stage Friday and Saturday, March 6-7, at the West Sioux High School Auditorium. The West Sioux Music Department’s performance of “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” combined classic songs, timeless humor, and heartwarming moments, leaving audiences smiling from start to finish.
Directed by Jack McInnis, the production featured senior Javin Bruner as the lovable Charlie Brown, sophomore Madilyn Bonham as Sally Brown, sophomore Paulina Rodriguez as the bossy Lucy Van Pelt, senior Anthony Hansen as Linus Van Pelt, sophomore Salvador Franco as Schroeder, and seventh-grader Bennett Yeager as everyone’s favorite beagle, Snoopy. The ensemble brought additional depth and charm, including junior Samantha Scheel as Woodstock, eighth-graders Breely Bakker as Peppermint Patty and Isabelle Hansen as Marcie Carlin, among others.
“Every student brought energy and heart to their performance,” McInnis said. “Their commitment made this show a true celebration of the Peanuts characters we all know and love.”
Behind the scenes, the production ran like clockwork. McInnis and Kelsey Saathoff from Akron-Westfield led choreography, while lighting was managed by freshman Ben Yoerger, and eighth-graders Kyler Olson and Levi Ronsiek. Set design was handled by McInnis, sophomore Owen Hansen, and senior Salvador Franco, and sound mixing was coordinated by Olson. Backstage hands and makeup artists rounded out the team, ensuring a seamless performance.
The musical followed the everyday adventures of Charlie Brown and his friends, reminding audiences that joy can be found in both the big and small moments. Whether celebrating a baseball victory, dealing with schoolwork, or simply enjoying time with friends, the Peanuts gang discovers that happiness often comes in the little things.
With its combination of humor, music, and heart, the West Sioux production left the audience cheering for more, showcasing the remarkable talent and dedication of the district’s student performers.
